Congratulations Republican Partisan Officeholders: Welcome to Irrelevance Part 3

I am picking on Dave Gilliard because he is the best example in my own backyard of what is wrong with the Republican side of the political system.

Gilliard had a really bad 2012 – like the rest of the party. In the ill-fated AD-08 Race, Gilliard’s client flamed out badly and Dave Gilliard sent out a mailer that made Peter Tateishi look like Emporer Hirohito. Dave Gilliard also sent out a racist mailer against Melissa Melendez who upset his client Phil Paule.

Worse than the $200k that Dave Gilliard took from the California GOP before bailing out on Prop 40 was Gilliard running Independent Expenditures in an attempt to help an entrenched liberal democrat Larry Agran hold on to power in the City of Irvine.

The OC Weekly exposed Dave Gilliard’s role in the independent expenditures on behalf of a third candidate apparently recruited by Agran to split votes away from his real challenger:

To help Daigle wreck Republican Party-endorsed Choi, Agran’s alliance isn’t using a liberal political-action committee (PAC). Instead, the PAC behind Daigle’s pro-Agran, anti-Choi messages flooding Irvine mailboxes is—drum roll, please—a Republican-controlled entity:Dave Gilliard‘s California Homeowners Association (CHA).

So – it should come as no surprise that when the liberal Republicans came calling to run a revenge mission against the Placer GOP – Dave Gilliard was their man.

Are you getting a better picture of the California GOP Train Wreck?

Granted, Dave Gilliard is not 100% of it – because there are several like him.

Witness David Stafford Reade. You would think after getting hammered time and again in the local media, he’d get a clue. All he did was move underground. He still ran campaigns thinly veiled behind Dave Gilliard – you will be hearing plenty more on that as circumstances warrant.

You’d also think with the California GOP being beaten in to irrelevance that people would cut the crap and start figuring out how to circle the wagons. David Stafford Reade is currently working on a slate of moderates to run (as paying clients) for California Republican Party office.

If at first you don’t succeed in gutting the Republican Party Platform, try try again.

It is the next paycheck all over again.

But, then there is Charles Munger. This case is special.

You’d think that even as wealthy as he is – nearly $100 million in to campaigns – including at least $41 million in to this cycle would cause him to cut his losses.

Apparently not.

2012 was a different year – in the past, Munger was reputed to have invested as much as $25 million in to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s initiatives and plans.

Munger also bankrolled some $10-$15 million in to Prop 11 and Prop 14. Prop 14 is our open primary and Prop 11 was combined with another prop to give us the disaster known as the “citizens re-districting commission”.

When I saw that the trainwreck was a team effort – stay tuned…

David Stafford Reade + Doug LaMalfa – Corruption and Ethics Issues Part 1

David Reade, Doug LaMalfa, Jim Nielsen  Comments Off on David Stafford Reade + Doug LaMalfa – Corruption and Ethics Issues Part 1
Apr 012012

In the Case of Ted and Beth Gaines – their problem is Nepotism, and a Chief of Staff whose behavior resembles Rasputin (including the control he wields over them)…

… but Nepotism is not Corruption.

Doug LaMalfa, David Stafford Reade, Dave Gilliard and their allies have leveled corruption charges against all of Doug LaMalfa’s political opponents in Placer County. It is pretty easy for them to level such charges – the record of actual evidence shows that they have had some practice.

When Gilliard, Reade and LaMalfa ran their media drill against the Placer GOP Cent Com in 2011- culminating in the public accusations of Money Laundering, Extortion, Graft and Influence Peddling in the Sacramento Bee in 7/2011… they had a familiar ring.

For starters – Dave Gilliard’s office was raided in a corruption investigation in San Bernardino County.

Second – David Stafford Reade is legendary for earning a lot of money on the side. (Beyond the $100,000k+ salary he earns as a Chief of Staff)

The Redding Record Searchlight was all over Reade for the “Double-Dipping”:

Then there’s the fundraising. Reade earned about $70,000 for collecting campaign contributions in the past few years. That means donors aren’t just supporting his clients’ runs for office but also filling the bank account of an assemblyman’s chief of staff. That veers perilously close to bribery.

Here’s the problem – the money Reade raised on Doug LaMalfa’s behalf and Jim Nielsen’s behalf could have been used to pay his own salary… whoops.

Remember John and Julie Doolittle – there were dozens of Sacramento Bee stories that pointed to Julie’s role as a commissioned fundraiser as evidence of John Doolittle’s corruption.

For as much as Steve Davey controls the Gains’ – he does not raise money for them.

All told, his DSR Enterprises has pulled in close to half a million dollars in the past half-decade as he’s traded on his bare-knuckled political acumen.

But has he traded on his official position? That would cross the line from moonlighting to graft.

Reade insists not. He says he maintains a “bright line” between campaign work and his legislative staff work. He says he’s never shown favoritism to any client who came lobbying on state business. And his direct bosses have had no objection to his side jobs, which LaMalfa even praised as advancing Republican causes (such as, say, LaMalfa’s political future).

I have to tip my Cap to Reade hauling in $500k in 6 years of mercenary work… that is capitalism at it’s finest. Ron Paul would even support legalizing that profession, too.

Is it that bright line – as Reade calls it and Doug LaMalfa’s lack of objection to his moonlighting that, in my opinion should be looked at by voters in this campaign… coming soon…

Today is the one-year anniversary of the FBI “Visit” to Karen England’s House

David Reade, Doug LaMalfa, Karen England, Mark Spannagel  Comments Off on Today is the one-year anniversary of the FBI “Visit” to Karen England’s House
Oct 272011

I decided to wait until the 27th to assign a date for the much-chronicled “Visit” from the FBI to Karen England’s house.

We asked Karen for the names and badge numbers of the Agents – she refused. She couldn’t even tell us if they showed up in Lincoln Town Cars or the New Dodge Chargers.

It has been a year. No visits from Scully and Mulder – not even special agent Jones for that matter.

Karen’s thought about concocting an FBI investigation lie – and I am calling it that now – was not original. David Stafford Reade, a board member of Karen’s employer did it to Rico Oller in 1999 during Oller’s campaign against David Reade’s father-in-law Bernie Richter. It has been 12 years – no one has called or visited Rico or any of his then staff.

I have chronicled all the crap we have had to put up with at the hands of Karen England and David Reade. Both are proven liars and are psychotically vindictive against political enemies – when Doug LaMalfa beat Rick Keene, Tom Hudson, George and I knew there would be recriminations, but nothing like this.

Reade and England threw everything they had at us – we stood firm, to the point where Karen England took her ball and ran away. In addition, both Karen and David have been expelled from the CRA for 10 years for committing fraud. Karen is off of the NFRA Board in addition. The SB48 Referendum was exposed as a joke and  her employer is in legal trouble as well. It hasn’t been a good year for Karen, despite helping to get her higher-power Doug LaMalfa elected to the State Senate.

Perhaps that is because when you lie and those lies get exposed, it is usually devastating?

Here we sit – one year later, nothing. So let’s do a review:

January 2011 – Karen England says at Cent Com Organizational Meeting that the FBI visited her house the previous October to talk about the Central Committee. This was repeated in the Auburn Journal.

Feb 2011 – Karen England with her moderate allies start initiating personal attacks against Cent Com Leadership in an effort to take control of the Cent Com – citing felony allegations with no evidence and the FBI Investigation.

March 2011 – more articles in local papers, Karen while drinking a beer yells “BS” when fingered as the source of the FPPC complaint filed against the Cent Com the prior year.

April 2011 – more fighting at the Cent Com Meeting, while this was being carried by Cheryl Bly-Chester, Karen was seen rallying votes in the room. FBI investigation charges are repeated in the State CRA officer elections in an attempt to gain political advantage where Karen was attempting to take control of the state CRA.

May 2011 – Cent Com Votes to Resolve the HQP issue 16-8.

Late May 2011 – an Email from DSR enterprises (David Reade’s Consulting Firm), signed by Doug LaMalfa, Ted Gaines and Beth Gaines- at Karen’s behest breathed new life in to the controversy and got media coverage.

June 2011 – a motion to reconsider fails 7-15. The local electeds after getting in the middle of the fight make the vote about them instead of the greater good.

July 2011 – apparently using her media savvy to get a story run, the Bee obliges with a front-page story accusing PCRP leadership of money laundering quoting Doug LaMalfa making the charges himself backed up by Ted Gaines.

July 2011 – Doug LaMalfa / Ted Gaines show up in person to Central Committee meeting in an attempt to pressure PCRP Chairman Jeff Atteberry. Auburn Journal covers the story.

July 2011 – Karen England / David Reade expelled from CRA for 10 years for committing fraud and bringing disrepute onto the CRA.

August 2011 – Mark Spannagel and David Stafford Reade repeat FBI charge in the local media in response to questions about their ouster from the State CRA. (Mark Spannagel is Doug LaMalfa’s Cheif of Staff)

September 2011 – David Stafford Reade / Doug LaMalfa exposed for their roles in an attempt to gut the California Republican Party Platform

October 2011 – Karen England’s organization Capitol Resource Institute slammed with FPPC Complaint alleging illegal activity.

October 2011 – Karen England self-terminates from the Central Committee after obtaining her fourth absence.

Now – something could happen. David Stafford Reade, Doug LaMalfa and crew could admit the lie and the whole thing could go away… otherwise, October 27th will be an annual event where we remember the day personal hatred caused a colossal political error that has been expanding ever since.

Oct 262011

The Capitol Resource Institute did it again. Like with the SB777 referendum – they screwed up another one, or they ran another fund-raiser.

However, this time – the insider community is abuzz as it has become apparent to many that it appears that they may never have been serious about the effort in the first place. Add to this, they are struck with an FPPC complaint for being a non-profit engaging in political activity and we have issues.

We have been documenting the activity of the Capitol Resource Institute because we believe they are a fraud. We also believe, based on our compilation of data and anecdotes that the Capitol Resoruce Institute has established itself as a fund-raising operation first and foremost.

We now have a pattern of three issues – SB777, Prop 8 and now SB48 where the Capitol Resource Institute appears to have utilized a hot-button issue to profit itself.

In the expose on the fake Prop 8 website ran by the Capitol Resource Institute – I observed some patterns that repeated with the SB48 referendum:

1. CRI employees were apparently taken off the CRI payroll and paid through the campaign.

2. The address of the Stop SB48 and the CRI were the same for all intents and purposes.

3. There was no public accounting of what was done with the money raised – only scrutiny and research in to the fake prop 8 website exposed what was done.

4. According to volunteers that were present in the Stop SB48 headquarters – the effort was disorganized and there was no serious, coordinated or sustained effort to validate signatures that were being gathered. In addition – it appeared to the same source that the “staff” didn’t really seem to care about what was coming in the mail – and the error rate on the petitions was well over 50%.

This would lead one to believe that the Stop SB48 effort was a fundraiser for the Capitol Resource Institute and not a serious effort to do anything.

I have heard charges leveled myself from Consultants and Conservative Activists about the CRI and its’ activity that suggest that the opinion expressed here on this blog is not unique.

It certainly makes sense how David Stafford Reade and Karen England could accuse their political enemies of fraud, money laundering, influence peddling and the like – they seem to be familiar activities based on what I have observed, found, been told, and have experienced through the eyes of others.

Sep 252011

Karen England was endorsed by Phyllis Schlafly, Richard Giguere, John Eastman, Chuck DeVore, Assemblyman Mike Morrell and Assemblymember Tim Donnelly – amongst others in her run for CRA President.

You’d think the above list would be an indicator of a Conservative’s Conservative.

There’s a problem – one of compromise. As Revealed earlier – David Stafford Reade has been exposed as a paid lackey of Charles Munger who lied to people and ran a drill to twist Conservative proxies in to the hands of liberals in order to destroy the California Republican Party Platform.

Karen England thinks I’m lying – she wrote the following words in an email tirade to me: “another FACT:  the proxies did not matter in  the most recent CRP meeting so it doesn’t matter who had them, it was impossible for them to be used on the platform committee or on the floor for the purpose of platform.

Karen England has a problem – she is the executive director of the Capitol Resource Institute. David Stafford Reade sits on their board of directors.

Doug LaMalfa is one of their largest donors.

David Reade’s actions are well documented – while serving on the board of a “family values” organization – he took substantial pay to lie, cheat and steal a result to undermine those very values.

Doug LaMalfa’s staff were caught red-handed in the middle of it.

Karen Emailed me unsolicited to tell me I was lying because the proxy drill did not matter.

Hmmm – If Karen cared about the conservative movement – why isn’t she concerned about where LaMalfa’s staff’s proxies went?

Why isn’t she concerned about the LaMalfa staff participation in getting the Proxies of Conservatives in the hands of Bay Area Liberals?

Why isn’t she asking the critical questions? “Why did Munger pay for this proxy drill if it didn’t matter?”

Here is her original email:

Just read your blog about the CRP convention.  The proxies at this convention did not and could not have ANYTHING to do with the platform  The only meeting regrading platform was AFTER the convention and only committee members could vote – NO PROXIES.  The platform will be voted on in whole, at the next convention.  Proxies COULDN’T vote on anything regarding the platform this last go around.  Again, you can’t even get the most basic information correct – it was IMPOSSIBLE for the platform to be voted on the floor last weekend.
Karen can’t ask the legitimate questions because of her conflicts of interest.
The above does indeed underscore the brilliance of Tom Del Becarro and others who moved the Platform Committee Meeting to 1pm on Sunday after the main Convention Session was over. The Majority that David Stafford Reade and Team Munger had coerced at the California Republican Party Convention was rendered useless.
This is the fact that Karen England can’t acknowledge – because doing so would remove her only justification for defending David Reade and Doug LaMalfa’s actions.
Meanwhile, back in Placer County – Doug LaMalfa, Karen England, Mark Spannagel and their Non-Conservative allies continue their assault on the Placer-CRA led Placer GOP Central Committee.
Pattern Recognition Folks, Pattern Recognition…
This will be continued – next up: “Did the Moderates try to Take Over CRA?”
