Perhaps Bryan Maryott studied the behavior of his fellow Massachusetts liberal Ted Kennedy too much.

We don’t need that capacity (referring to offshore oil drilling) and we likely never will – Bryno Maryott 10-2021

During a SJC City Council meeting on 11/2/16, the City agreed to an additional $500,000 payout due to Brian Maryott’s alleged brown act violations and conflicts of interest in dealing with the San Juan Capistrano Golf Course. In addition, Maryott colluded against residents of SJC with St. Margaret’s, an organization that was seeking to “beautify the area”.  While the City was dealing with St. Margaret’s, including with Maryott’s direct involvement, he failed to disclose that his wife was general counsel of St. Margaret’s – a direct conflict of interest.  This info was provided by former elected officials at the city with direct knowledge of the matter

Whoops. Looks like some corruption.

The City of San Juan Capistrano’s rules on ethics and electronic communications prohibit public officials from the “appearance of conflict of interest” and use of email for “personal business or political activities.”

Despite this, emails involving Mayor and Congressional candidate Brian Maryott show him breaking these rules and allowing his campaign Political Director – Sherry Hodges – to control his schedule. Even more, Hodges sought to reduce Maryott’s meeting with constituents, asking City staff if there was “someone on City staff who can meet with residents on behalf of Mayor Maryott.”

Even more, in 2018 Maryott also discussed leveraging his connections with Wells Fargo – where he retired as a Senior Vice President in 2018 after working there for 10 years over the course of two stints – to help an individual get a grant with them. Emails show Maryott telling the individual he would “loop in the private bank and my contacts to help build momentum” and directed him to contact a specific person at Wells Fargo. When the individual told Maryott they did not receive the grant, Maryott requested a copy of the rejection letter. Maryott also discussed his 2020 congressional campaign with his city email, telling one supporter he would “be in touch” and telling another supporter to “stay tuned.”

And while the City’s policy on electronic communications policy prohibited the use of “personal accounts for the creation, transmission or storage of electronic communications regarding City business,” records show Maryott both sending and receiving information relating to his official role. These include sending messages regarding law enforcement and handling constituent complaints, to receiving messages regarding city finances and hiring. At the same time, emails show Maryott appeared to miss a deadline to complete an ethics training.

I like Sherry Hodges. I remember when Charles T Munger Jr funded 500K in attacks against her in order to help the feckless Rocky Chavez in to AD76. Chavez, barely discernable as a Republican repaid the support of the feckless establishment (who are supporting Bryno now) by bailing on AD76 to get hammered in a Congressional Primary. The reward for the GOP, an Assembly Seat gone forever.

That said, Bryno got hammered for abusing his city resources with which to campaign. This is further proof that his campaigns are on a shoestring and his ethics are situational.

The part about Wells Fargo is disturbing on two fronts. Note the mention of Bryno retiring (highlighting the lie he got blistered in court for recently) and attempting to leverage his relationship with that former employer to get someone a loan.

The part about Bryno using his city email to promote his congressional campaign (his second one that is), shows that Bryno has never had competent campaign help or he does not listen to them… or both. (UGH)

Then don’t forget that Bryno also got lit up by the Federal Election Commission for some bad financial planning.

COMPLAINANT: FEC-Initiated

RESPONDENTS: Maryott for Congress and Brian Maryott (the Committee)

SUBJECT: In the normal course of exercising its supervisory responsibilities, the Commission initiated proceedings to determine whether the Committee failed to disclose $154,134.00 in additional disbursements on its 2018 12-Day Pre-Primary Report. Brian Maryott was a 2018 candidate for California’s 49th Congressional District.

DISPOSITION: The Committee agreed to 1) implement a policy requiring that reports are reviewed by multiple individuals prior to filing and bank reconciliations are reviewed by someone other than the treasurer of the Committee on a quarterly basis; 2) certify that a representative of the Committee has participated in an FEC conference, webinar, or other program; and 3) pay a civil penalty of $5,500.

There is hope. In a couple weeks, Bryno will go 0 for 3 with his congressional campaigns. In baseball we call that the “Hat Trick”.

Why didn’t Bryan Maryott vote in either the 1998 Primary or General Election when he lived in Massachusetts?

Out of the same mind that said, “We simply do not need that capacity and likely never will” – when referring to offshore oil production – comes the life pattern of lackadaisical participation in elections.

Voter participation records in Orange County show Maryott failing to vote in statewide primary elections in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. Maryott also failed to vote in the November 2006 Statewide General Election. This stellar record of missing elections proves that his behavior in Massachusetts was no fluke.

Perhaps Bryno was an accidental candidate?

In addition, research indicates that Bryno did not start contributing to other candidates until 2018. This, when coupled with his Meg-Whitmanesque record of never voting suggests that Maryott did not become serious about politics until he decided to become a candidate for office. Why then, should anyone be serious about him?

This matters because it speaks to motives and sincerity – especially when coupled with his service to Massachusetts liberals earlier in life.

In 2018 – 92% of his campaign cash came from himself.

In 2020 – 44%

So far in 2022 – 65%

In 2016 he self funded his entire campaign for City Council, (as in 100%) then ran for Congress inside of his first term! I guess San Juan Capistrano was a springboard versus an effort to serve the people of the city.

Then, when Bryno attempted to step up to Congress, he could not fill out his own paperwork correctly! (Speaking of being a financial planner)

In the spring of 2019, Maryott’s 2018 campaign was fined $5,500 for a disclosure violation:

Bad Bryno. To Be continued…

The Price of Regular Gasoline in Bryno’s Hometown. Thanks Bryno!!!

In what has to be one of the dumbest statements ever by an officeholder, Bryan Maryott on 10-21-2021 sealed his doom.

Several area Republicans also have come out in support of a ban on offshore drilling, including Assemblywoman Janet Nguyen of Fountain Valley and Brian Maryott of San Juan Capistrano, who’s running to unseat Levin in the 49th Congressional District.

“We simply do not need that capacity and likely never will,” Maryott said.
OC Register, October 21, 2021

The nuance here is not whether you are opposed to offshore drilling in the 49th congressional district. It’s the fundamental flaw in making a blanket suggestion that we don’t ever need more capacity to increase supply and reduce price. Mr. Maryott’s economics are flawed. Did he not go take economics 101? Or did he just stay at a Maryott Inn Express last night?

There are other places in the country where we can drill and increase capacity. But the fact is Maryott made a blanket statement that we don’t need the capacity at a time when gas prices are extremely high and the supply chain is constrained. This is the position of a Democrat and a Candidate who flunked economics.

Bryno got an epic beat-down by a Judge for attempting to lie about being a financial planner. Undaunted, he tricked the CAGOP into sending a mailer that may well have been done in contempt of the court decision as the mailer identified him as a financial planner despite the legal beat-down.

The former Massachusetts Liberal and Democrat Staffer has the fine art of defying the institutions of government down pat.

Bryan “Bryno’ Maryott is now calling himself a “Non-Profit Executive”. On one hand, the fact that he is no longer employed suggests a non-profit status, but he is the executive of what?

When asked about the business and nonprofit referenced in his new ballot designation, Maryott’s campaign manager Megan House said he “is still an active investor” and he has started a nonprofit “that helps families in underserved communities with financial literacy and education” along with doing pro-bono consulting for other nonprofits. House didn’t respond to additional questions, including the name of Maryott’s nonprofit.” (OC Register)

Whoops. One Grand Lie begat another?

Furthering the notion that Bryan Maryott is a complete vacuum are his comments about domestic energy production. People in #CA49 are paying $6 a gallon for gas and Bryan did his part to make that happen:

He said he disagrees with the president’s so-called “travel ban,” which blocked people from several mostly Muslim countries from entering the United States. He said that the administration’s plan to expand offshore oil drilling is unnecessary.

That was lifted from the San Diego Union May 21, 2018 article. I bet Bryno wishes he had that comment back given gas prices today. But, when you are an empty shirt “Pander Bear” candidate, you don’t think through the Dog Whistle Politics comments.

Bryno was trying to kiss up to coastal voters in #CA49 but threw out the baby with the bathwater. He went far beyond the coastline of #CA49 with his opposition to Oil production.

San Juan Capistrano Mayor Brian Maryott, who is campaigning as the Republican opponent to Levin in the 2020 election, appeared at the news conference to show nonpartisan solidarity with the North County leaders in their opposition to the administration’s plan.

This was taken from the San Diego Union Tribune 4-24-2019.

The article was about the Trump Administration removing the total ban on offshore drilling by the Obama admin. So, in this case Bryno was in lock step with Mike Levin and Barack Hussein Obama.

Literally, Bryan Maryott is on record opposing energy independence, the jobs it would create and the price relief at the pump people so desperately want in 2022!

I still do not understand the affinity that some have for Bryno Maryott. He is a Massachusetts Liberal transplant to Southern Orange County. Aside from getting elected to City Council in a Small City he is an accomplished loser in campaigns.

I may not be in Congress, but I did stay at a Maryott Inn Express Last Night…

Bryan Maryott got a BA from American International College in Springfield Massachusetts. He served as a staffer for the Massachusetts General Court and was then a Chief of Staff for a legislator in Massachusetts.

It is a fascinating entrée in to the vacuum that is Bryan Maryott. I am curious as to why these facts are never discussed in the conversations about Bryan Maryott. Only the star power of Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump allowed them to overcome skepticism about their sincerity of conversion to the GOP. Bryno has a host of anti-growth and fee-raising votes on local government commissions on his resume since assuming city council.

Right before Bryno got smoked by Mike Levin in 2020 there were some fascinating quotes in the OC Register:

Maryott said he believes in recent years the Republican party has struggled to connect with voters on an emotional level over key issues. And he said President Donald Trump’s “bombastic” style — which he said he isn’t his personal “cup of tea” — is causing some blowback for down-ballot GOP candidates.

Trump-Bashing to pander. Check.

Moderate Republican

Maryott started out as a Democrat, and in his 20s worked for Massachusetts State Rep. Paul Caron….

Though he still believes both parties have “noble ideas,” Maryott said, “I’ve been pretty comfortable as a Republican the rest of my adult life.”

So Bryno is not even honest about the breed of Republican he is let alone his pedigree as a former Socialist.

Here is another article that covers how Bryno got his ass kicked in 2018.

Those conditions clearly have Maryott, 59, hoping the third time might be the charm. The former financial planner first ran for CA-49 in 2018, finishing eighth in the primary. He was Levin’s only challenger in 2020, losing that November by 6.2 points. This time around, he earned official endorsements from the state and local branches of GOP, which gives him an edge over his fellow Republicans.

LOL. The GOP endorsed an accomplished Loser. He finished 8th in 2018 and then lost a D+1 District by 6.2 in 2020. But, wait, there’s more…

Maryott was the only candidate in the CA-49 race who didn’t respond to any of the Register’s questions about his positions on key issues. But he’s a former Democrat who’s previously promised to try to “bring the temperature down” on contentious partisan politics. He’s running this year on a platform of fighting for border security, supporting school choice and more funding for police.

Bartlett sparred with Maryott over the job title that he’ll use on the June 7 ballot. He’s now listed as a “businessman/nonprofit executive,” with his campaign citing his work as an investor and with an unnamed nonprofit. Bartlett is listed as a “county supervisor/businesswoman,” as a real estate firm owner who’s involved in a startup that makes party cups people can write on.

The GOP endorsed a candidate who was too much of a coward to respond to the OC Register.

So, let’s recap today’s Bryno Lesson:

Democrat.

Chief of Staff for a Democrat Paul Caron

Democrats have “Noble Ideas”

8th Place in 2018 Primary.

Lost a D+1 District by 6.2 in 2020

Wussed out on responding to the OC Register in 2022

but wait, there’s more!
