California AG Race Update: Why I Am Choosing Nathan Hochman Over Eric Early

by | Mar 14, 2022 | 2022 Elections, Eric Early, Nathan Hochman | 6 comments

Let’s summarize before you read further: Nathan Hochman has a much better chance of winning than Eric Early.

So let’s start off with the Moderate versus Conservative issue. Today, Eric Early is claiming to be the conservative in the AG Race. I remember not long ago when Early was the Center-Left GOP Candidate in 2018 for AG when Stephen Bailey got the nod out of the primary.

When I was working for Steve Frank in 2021, Eric Early refused to commit to Mr. Frank and join conservatives seeking a voice at the State Party. Given that the CRA has been shunned and attacked by the CRP, I would ask the CRA delegates to at least ask some tough questions of Mr. Early before they endorse him this weekend. The CRA needs to endorse people who will stand for them as much as they do for the candidates.

I have no illusions that Hochman is a solid Republican but not a textbook conservatve. However, my experience with Mr. Early indicates that, in deed, he is not that Conservative either.

Then there is the $1.5 Million and counting that Hochman has. Early won’t have enough money to walk and chew gum simultaneously.

However, the most compelling part of Hochman is his resume. The man has fought criminals for his whole life. Given that he may be the most viable alternative to Rob Soros-Bonta, this has to be the primary consideration in choosing a candidate for California AG.

As a general counsel in private practice, Nathan has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s leading criminal justice defense and tax lawyers. For over two decades, Nathan has represented victims of crimes and defended the constitutional rights of individuals and organizations against governmental overreach.

In the midst of the global financial crisis of 2008, Nathan once again answered the call to service and was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as an Assistant Attorney General of the United States overseeing the Department of Justice’s Tax Division.

After unanimous confirmation by the United States Senate, Nathan led a team of over 350 civil, criminal and appellate lawyers, bringing cases in all 50 states.

When he returned to California, Nathan continued to fight against corruption as a Commissioner and President of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, where he held city leaders accountable for their actions.

Working in the Criminal Division as an Assistant US Attorney, Nathan prosecuted over a hundred cases, from going after corrupt government officials and tax evaders to narcotics traffickers and violent gang members. Nathan also ran the Environmental Crimes Section targeting air, water, and land polluters.

In the 1990s, when California was ravaged by fires, floods, and a massive earthquake, Nathan formed and spearheaded the Los Angeles Disaster Fraud Task Force.  That Task Force went after financial predators who stole relief dollars intended for those most in need. Leading 15 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, Nathan’s team, brought over 70 prosecutions and recovered millions of dollars for victims.

These are pulled from Mr. Hochman’s website. As Republicans, this should be what we are looking for in today’s world. Having read Early’s resume’ he has a long way to go to catch up to Mr. Hochman.

  1. This “article” was paid for and written by an operative working for Hochman who then paid RightOnDaily to publish it. It is just another example of how Eric’s milquetoast “Republican” opponent is living in fear of Eric. And he should be scared of Eric. Because between the two of them, Eric is the fighter for the People, and he has kicked the a*ses of more pampered pedigreed Nathan Hochmans in courtrooms around the country than you can count on your hands and feet. If you want to get an idea of the major clients of Eric and the many battles he has won, go to his law firm’s website (yes, Eric runs a business and is the only person in this race who has never been on a government payroll): http://www.EarlySullivan.com. Nathan Hochman is a pampered weakling who brings to mind Jeb Bush. Eric is from the Reagan/Trump wing of the Party. Hochman represents the Schwarzenegger/Bush/Faulkner wing of the party. I know which side I’m on. The far left Democrats and their mainstream media supporters see Eric as the only threat in this race. And they should. We are fighting for the heart and soul of this state and our state Republican Party which has been coopted by many in the Schwarzenegger/Bush/Faulkner wing. #voteEarlyforEarly.

  2. Intrepid Blogger, you can choose who you want, but let provide some observations and fill in some background. In fair disclosure, I am a volunteer on the Eric Early for Attorney General Campaign.

The most important thing that has to happen in the primary is the Acting Attorney General gets less than 50% of the vote. This is a signal that a non-Democrat can win the General. If Bonta wins there will be no checks and balances in Sacramento. California will affirm itself as the “Criminal State”. The wild card is none of the candidates have name recognition. Getting out the vote is key in the primary.

I worked on the Judge Bailey campaign beginning in 2017 through Nov 2018. I met Eric Early at the 2018 CRP Spring Convention. I wanted to determine if Eric won the primary, would I work for his campaign in the General Election. Within two minutes I had my answer, “YES!”.

Before any candidates announced for the 2022 election, I contacted Eric and encouraged him to run. When he announced I quickly joined his campaign as a volunteer. I have observed Nathan Hochman and followed Anne Marie Schubert, former REP who changed to NPP.

Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie cleverly lined up endorsements well in advance from her fellow county District Attorneys and a number of law enforcement groups.

In 2018 Eric was a neophyte candidate for Attorney General and received almost 1 million votes. He approached the Republican Party and was embraced at the time by many of the establishment Republicans because Bailey was “too” conservative. Bailey had already sewed up the knuckle-dragging ogres (conservatives). In 2020 Eric challenged longtime incumbent Adam Schiff in the safe Democrat Seat, CD-28. Establishment Republicans learned that Eric was far more “conservative” than to their liking. He refused to toe the prevailing state party line of “never saying the name Trump.” And he has doubled down on that. Eric has been an ardent and vocal Trump supporter since Trump won the Primary years ago (including on Eric’s weekly Los Angeles area radio show), which is no mean feat, especially given the part of California in which Eric lives.

So the establishment has found Hochman, who has roots to the Bush Family and therefore he would not be too conservative. Hochman’s campaign touts his moderate viewpoints as if that is the way a Republican can get elected here. I disagree with that thinking, and it is not a crime, but is what helped him in securing the endorsements of elected legislative Republicans and fundraising.

Eric is gathering a growing number of endorsements from Republican Party County Central Committees around the state whose support cannot be bought and who represent many, many voters. Importantly, Eric has massive grass roots support from around the state. He was lead counsel for the Recall Newsom campaign. His campaign is run by Orrin Heatlie and Mike Netter of the recall movement. He brought the first lawsuit in the nation 4 years ago against Critical Race Theory on behalf of a nonprofit citizen’s group vs the Santa Barbara Unified School District, and among many others, he represents One America News Network, (OANN).

What I noticed about Eric when he talks, he speaks like he is talking to a jury. He is talking to the people. He is effective at laying out the facts and making his case. When he talks, people are glued to his words. There will be a public platform for both Eric and and his opponent at the CAGOP Endorsing Convention, Apr 22-24 in Anaheim. I hope it is well attended.

Again, the signal we want is these three candidates can get 50% or more of the vote in the primary.

The reason I like Eric is we need a tough Attorney General. If I aam going to hire someone who is tough, I am going to hire someone from New York, where Eric moved from back in the 1980s.

  3. This is why I hate what the CRP has become. We spend more time fighting between ourselves that we do fighting the Democrats. Thank you Chucky Munger…You have really screwed the GOP with your ‘open primary’ making use have to fight for CRP endorsements….

  4. Ericearlyforca.com – The GOP convention was literally a circus I witnessed several carrying their proxies around and not even voting so it was already fixed then Jessica Patterson wanted to go a third term which would’ve brought the bylaws so who’s in control here I don’t even think we can trust the GOP any longer they’re all being bought lining their pockets and making their dynasties larger I support Eric Early he’s the best person for this job in our state top cop – That will bring law and order back and follow a state constitution

  5. Eric Early has the strength and the focus of being the top cop in our state and bringing back order to our state Constitution he will not be in for special interest

The GOP convention was literally a circus so many carrying around the proxies and not even voting so was it fixed just like Jessica Patterson asking for a third term which was against the bylaws so who is being bought here no more dynasties no more professional Politicians it’s time to get our state back and Eric Early will be the top cop

  6. What do you do close off comments because you don’t wanna hear the truth I was a picture is clearly painted the GOP is bought that’s why our state is in such shambles because these professional politicians – Jessica Patterson the chairwoman was looking for a third term which in the bylaws it clearly states two terms so what are we doing this is not a party that is representing the true conservatives it’s a party trying to line their own pockets votes were bought this last weekend at the GOP convention several college kids were brought in so they can use the proxies to vote this is a joke I’m ashamed of my party
