How About This for a Sub Headline: The Republican Spoiler Who Will Elect Cottie Petrie-Norris.

Please note: The URL is changing to www.rightondailyblog.com soon. rightondaily.com will still point here for a while longer.

Jon Flash believes that Kevin Muldoon beat John Moorlach. He ripped in to Mr. Muldoon here. I disagree with Mr. Flash’s thesis – however his column was a devastating salvo against Diane Harkey. It should also be a warning to the wise people on the OCGOP that they need to take pause when selecting candidates. Let’s take a look.

Diane cares only about Diane. Narcissism is a trait that serves nobody well. And it can hurt our communities badly at those times when politics needs to be a team sport in order to win.

I replaced Kevin with Diane.

Now take a look at this next paragraph – it foreshadows or emphasizes what is currently happening:

Republican leaders attempted to block that path by rallying around one candidate: State Senator John Moorlach. He had a huge amount of name identification already, and the Supervisor seat was significantly more Republican than the State Senate seat he had just lost. In fact Moorlach received 57% of the vote in the 2nd District. John was also a senior statesman, which would allow other candidates to step aside for him, without it being problematic. So John was recruited – and immediately was endorsed by the Republican Party of Orange County, the Lincoln Club of Orange County, the New Majority of Orange County, and other organizations like the Family Action PAC, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, the California Pro-Life Council and Gun Owners of California. O’Neill and Peterson, who had not yet announced, backed Moorlach. Mike Posey went so far as to pull nomination papers, but in deference to party leaders he did not return them and chose to endorse Moorlach. But Muldoon would not budge (all of the while saying that he would not be a spoiler).

Besides the absurdity of calling Moorlach a Senior Statesman (no statesman smears a rape victim by the way) – Mr Flash encapsulates what is being done right now for Harkey. Harkey lacks the gravitas of Moorlach and the loyal following Moorlach has – yet the same people are trying to pull a Moorlach 2.0 with Diane Harkey.

Moorlach was defeated because of his baggage. With or without Muldoon in the race, Moorlach loses. You can not assume all of Vo and Muldoon’s votes go to Moorlach with all of Moorlach’s negatives. Many would simply disappear.

The Deputy Sheriff’s had so much to work with that John Moorlach was a tin duck in a shooting gallery. By the time your intrepid blogger is done with Diane Harkey, she will eclipse Moorlach on the opposition research scale. (Think Three Mile Island) They had allocated $600K to nuke Moorlach and only ended up needing to use $300k of it. That ain’t Muldoon’s fault! A similar dynamic will occur against Diane Harkey.

If the party bosses are going to try to clear the field, it should not be for Diane Harkey. (I disagree with the party boss thing, but If they are going to do it, they should do it wisely.) I despair to think that they are planning a Moorlach VS Foley Rematch in 2022 as well.

Another excerpt from Mr. Flash’s blog needs to be thoroughly digested and vetted:

You can spend a lot of time trying to figure out why Muldoon stayed in. Was it the goading of public employee unions, anxious to defeat Moorlach because of his laser-focus on public employee pension reform? Was it the empty promises of wealthy Newport Beach types who promised big independent expenditures on behalf of their local councilmember who they knew would still serve two more years on the council?

At the end of the day, I believe that all of these factors contributed to Muldoon’s decision – but that the single greatest factor was that Muldoon simply could not put aside his own ambition at a relatively young age for the greater good of the County and his party, and a conservative movement to which he apparently feels no fidelity.

Goading of public employee unions? Harkey is bragging about the OC Sheriff’s support (they killed Moorlach).

Big talking wealthy donors that don’t come through? Harkey could only muster $103K of her own money the last time she ran. I also repeat, will Harkey rage on the OCGOP and the others over her unvoiced expectations that they should all carry her?

Ambition? Harkey has run for six different offices!

Conservative Movement? We’ve demonstrated there is a deep disconnect between the values Harkey says she has and what she actually does. (With much more documentation to come)

My research shows that Diane Harkey has no history at all of involvement in conservative or Republican volunteer organizations or campaigns prior to running for office. Using John Moorlach for comparison, Harkey does not come close to Moorlach’s pedigree in this regard (setting aside character issues). She was never a member of Young Republicans, College Republicans or CRA.  She has no history of working as a volunteer in any political campaign prior to being elected, such as Reagan, Dukemejian or even Pete Wilson.  Think about that. No history supporting ReaganThere is No history of involvement, prior to getting elected, of support for campaigns like Proposition 13 or any of its progeny, no involvement in the pro-life movement, fighting gun control, fighting illegal immigration, attending a demonstration, of political giving, none of these things prior to running for office. She also has no history of serious involvement in a church or church work, or working in or for a charity. Based on my research, her total involvement in organizations has been about her. Given her tumultuous marriage and divorce, it is hard to think that she could ever achieve, as Moorlach did, the endorsement of the Family Action PAC.

My research indicates that Her support from groups like the Lincoln Club, New Majority or OCGOP has come only directly because she bought her way in (and the source of said buy in money is also a key issue), not because she earned it like Moorlach. (I write this about Moorlach as someone openly hostile to him – he did still earn his endorsements despite my opinion of him). John Moorlach has always been a man of fairly average means without the ability to self-fund even though I’ve lit in to him for his pensions totaling over $200K a year from taxpayers.

I even researched the Republican Women Federated. Nope. No Harkey prior to her political ambition.

What price Harkey? Today, her money simply is not there anymore to buy endorsements.

The ultimate lesson here is that character is not just about ideology, and conviction on issues, but it is also about being able to play as part of a team. When we are picking players for a team in the future, we all have to work hard to weed out the Muldoons.

It won’t be easy because sometimes you cannot know the measure of someone’s character until the critical moment. As screenwriter Robert McKee once said, “True character is revealed in the choices a human being makes under pressure – the greater the pressure, the deeper the revelation, the truer the choice to the character’s essential nature.”

We need to weed out the Harkeys. Her own actions demonstrate that she does not know the definition of team.

I 1000% agree with Jon’s statement about character (disagree with his application to Muldoon though) – but unlike Kevin Muldoon, we have ample evidence on Diane Harkey with regard to her true character. We also have far more to come. Look at what she did to Darrell Issa and others that helped her in 2018 when juxtaposed with her own behavior!

The OCGOP and the donor community would do well to apply Jon Flash’s words to Diane Harkey. It is time to get off the retreadmill and get someone newer with far less baggage.

We are just a month in to our expose on Diane Harkey. Fresh on the heels of John Moorlach getting shellacked at the ballot box, Harkey is the next retread darling of the OCGOP Mafia. If you thought Moorlach had baggage, Diane Harkey has an entire doubled up BNSF or UP Freight Train’s worth.

Here are some key takeaways from the blogs we’ve written on Diane Harkey so far:

  1. She has a hair-trigger temper
  2. She drinks frequently at events causing people to believe she is a drunk
  3. She holds grudges
  4. She plays the victim
  5. Faced a recall that was viable and forced her out as mayor

We’ve asked if Diane Harkey will blame the OCGOP the same way she blamed Darrell Issa for her loss in CA-49. It was so bad that she uncorked a hysterical screed against Mr. Issa in his 2020 CA50 race. If Diane Harkey loses her latest office-shop – will she rage on the OCGOP like she did Darrell Issa? It is a fair question as I was told she was a lazy campaigner and did not put the work necessary in to being a successful candidate.

Read our two-part series on the Darrell Issa caper and decide for yourself if her behavior is that of someone you want in office. Part One and Part Two.

We also learned that when on the Dana Point City Council, Harkey:

  1. Drove a Bentley around town (and later claimed she did not benefit from her husband’s businesses)
  2. Immediately broke a promise not to run for higher office in BOTH 2006 and 2008
  3. Caught with conflicts of interest
  4. Brown Act Violations

Harkey was embroiled in controversy from day one on the Dana Point City Council. Her husband’s business dealings that she would sue people over and sue to get out of just a decade later were a problem. She was constantly being accused of a conflict of interest because her husband was engaging in speculative real estate and had numerous LLC’s and Corporations with entanglements all over Orange County. While Diane Harkey has attempted to play the victim of her husband’s finances, it is not difficult to find her name all over the paperwork of some of his LLC’s, her listed as an employee of others and Real Estate records with her name all over them.

When I checked the Orange County Superior Court’s website, I see that Harkey was suing people in the mid-2000’s and her husband was being sued at least once a year for breach of contract. This is a key fact to digest. Diane Harkey had to know her husband was crooked. Perhaps the Bentley she was driving while she served on the Dana Point City Council made it hard to take an honest look at the source of the money for said Bentley.

Read the entire expose’ on the Dana Point Council Caper here.

As your intrepid blogger is getting deeper in to detonating the facade of Diane Harkey – we began just a few days ago to unravel the victim narrative and to tell the truth about her finances, background and the like.

Right from day one in her second office held (Assembly) and third run for – the fur started flying. She won election to AD73 in 2008, and was followed by the monster Bill Brough in 2014.

In 2008, Diane Harkey did not draw a credible opponent, that has to be the only reason why the 14 liens against the businesses she was entangled in with her Husband were not an issue. Dan and Diane Harkey appear in the filings of at least 12 businesses in the past together. Dan Harkey has had at least 40 entities he has been the principal of. Most all of them show suspended or revoked for their status.

Why any rational person would act surprised that someone whose past business practices netted 14 liens got sued successfully by bankrupted investors is beyond me.

The blog post goes on to cover SEC Investigations in to the business that Dan and Diane were listed as officers of.

We learned that Dan Harkey lost his real estate license many years ago. How did Diane Harkey not know?

“I’ve been married for 25 years to my husband,” said the Dana Point Republican. “We have personal income. He has income. I have income. Sometimes it was my income. Sometimes it was his income. Sometimes it’s both of our incomes. And I’ve saved him financially many years. So I’m not going to get into whose, yours, mine, ours. Who knows after 25 years?”

Re-Read the above quote as many times as necessary. She admitted their finances were comingled… this flies in the face of her current re-writing of history.

We are laying out a ton of evidence that shows that Diane Harkey was not separate from her husband’s business dealings and did indeed profit from them:

The OC Register continues: (And these are key to future installments of this series)

Campaign disclosures show that she’s pumped $1.25 million in personal contributions into her political races since 2004. She’s spent an additional $875,000 on other local, state and federal campaigns and political organizations. Two of those campaigns filed contribution disclosures listing Diane Harkey as working for Point Center Financial.

Unlike the people that sued Point Center Financial, I am not alleging the source of Harkey’s campaign funds was illegal. It is perfectly legal in my opinion, but from immoral activity. I am going to lay out how and why as it appears despite the numerous media stories and opposition research packets no one took the time to fully develop this concept. Perhaps Mike Levin did not need to in 2018 as he hammered Harkey by 13 points.

Diane Harkey, 57, (she is now 70) burst onto the political scene in 2004, spending $135,000 of her own money to win a Dana Point City Council race. In 2006, she spent $936,000 of her own money in a bid for state Senate, losing in the primary. She spent $151,961 of her own money in her 2008 Assembly victory.

Let all of this sink in as many times as needed:

Remember the Bentley, remember the house she lives in that is worth $5Million and then read…

Diane Harkey is not currently employed except as an Assembly member, according to the “Statement of Economic Interest” legislators are required to file. She lists a range of $12,000 to $110,000 in non-real estate investments, most of it in a Point Center Financial fund.

Where did she get $2.1 Million in campaign cash from? And why is it unreasonable to conclude that some of it came from each of the multiple entites she was listed as a part of?

She also lists eight properties, six of which generate rental income. Two of those generate more than $100,000 in annual income – one of which is Point Center Financial’s headquarters in Aliso Viejo.

Keep asking questions. The Bentley, The $5MM house, the $2Million Plus in self funding, 14 liens. Where did it come from? What did Diane Harkey know? Can we trust anything she says? What has been her life pattern? She is running for her 6th office, it is time she answers some serious questions.

I first got to know Diane Harkey as an elected when she was in the Assembly. At the time, I was a long term officer in the CRA and at that time the CRA still had a presence in Orange County.

The Orange Juice Blog (left-leaning) Lampooned Harkey during her Assembly Days. On the Left is former Assemblyman Jim Silva

Shortly in to her tenure in the California State Assembly, Diane Harkey started having major-league issues. When I was checking the Orange County Superior Court Website and the Orange County Clerk’s Website – I was amazed by the sheer number of entries for both of them. Mrs. Harkey had to sue / evict a couple of tenants, Dan Harkey was getting sued for breach of contract and other similar stuff off and on.

As an officer in the CRA, I never knew about any of this. For me, this stuff has been recent and the only thing I knew about was the inexplicably stupid move of joining Carl DeMaio and going full Carl DeMaio rage mode on Darrell Issa. What I knew before that was a stalwart conservative, and I had no clue about the hundreds of pages of easily verifiable issues, drama and the like that has surrounded her career in politics.

It is simply not possible for Diane Harkey to have not known and been an innocent victim of her Husband’s malfeasance. She was reputed to have driven a Bentley around town when on the Dana Point City Council. In 2009, the personal finances of the Harkey’s Business dealings became a matter of public scrutiny.

Assemblywoman Diane Harkey’s blossoming political career appears to have been funded in part by earnings from her husband’s embattled real estate lending business, which is being sued for fraud and is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

As Dan Harkey has attracted increasing criticism in recent weeks, the legislator – through her husband, political consultant and chief of staff – has attempted to distance herself from that business, Point Center Financial.

But public documents have listed her as both an officer and an employee of the company; her financial disclosure forms indicate limited personal assets and she indicated Thursday that her political spending has included money from her husband’s earnings. Campaign disclosure forms show she’s spent $2.1 million on political campaigns since 2004.

I have all of those public documents. She was an employee of more than one of those entities – including the one that was the focus of 9 years of litigation. (Dan Harkey lost the appeal of the $12.5 Million Judgement against him in 2018) The LA Times covered the SEC Investigation starting in Feb 2009.

In an interview,  [Dan] Harkey said the SEC was seeking thousands of pages of documents in connection with a $25-million investment pool that funded construction loans. He predicted the SEC would find no irregularities in his company’s loan pool, noting that the California Department of Real Estate took no action after a similar review.

The records I have show Dan Harkey’s Real Estate License is suspended.

Back in 2009 – the pattern was set, Play the victim, refuse responsibility and blame others for her maladies. (While tooling around in a Bentley and living in a $5MM house (current value) mind you)

Harkey said she’s been unfairly drawn into business litigation that has nothing to do with her work as a lawmaker.

It is the opinion of this blogger, and I have ample evidence to back it up that Harkey is not an innocent victim, that their finances were inexorably intermixed, and that she was actually fairly drawn in to the litigation against her Husband. (Who she appears to have thrown under the bus in the above comment, more on that soon as well)

The OC Register continues: (And these are key to future installments of this series)

Make sure you remember this paragraph as well, that property is also another piece to the puzzle.

Dan Harkey told the Register last month that his wife had never been employed by Point Center Financial.

But disclosures filed by U.S. Rep. John Campbell, R-Newport Beach and former presidential hopeful Mitt Romney list Harkey as working for Point Center Financial as, variously, a broker or mortgage banker.

In addition she signed a 1990 “certificate of amendment” filed with the California secretary of state’s office changing the name of the Harkey business from All Loan Services, Inc., to Point Center Financial, Inc. It is signed by Dan Harkey – listed as president – and Diane Harkey – listed as secretary.

So Diane threw Dan under the bus it appears, yet Dan appers to have attempted to lie to cover for her. This is yet another theme that will recur as you continue reading further posts in this series.

The Orange County Register Article was prophetic on a number of fronts. Your Intrepid blogger is going to carry several of the issues raised in this article to what we believe is their conclusion. Before another coronation, it is time for people to learn about their candidates before they get in to office. It is easy to write about things like her past cheif of staff and dirty campaign cash after they happen, but we will do just that and more as the Diane Harkey Series Continues…

There is a reason I have always had an issue with Jorge Riley, there is zero remorse and zero repentance for the things he has done. Here is the latest:

Here are several recognizable folks from CAGOP Land having a nice event for Mr. Riley who is facing 10 years in federal prison.

Enter Jorge Riley bragging about what he did at the capitol per CBS13:

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A former Sacramento Republican leader charged in the storming of the U.S. Capitol was heard bragging in a new video about his involvement in the riot.

Video captured by the Black Zebra Impact Team shows Jorge Riley attending a “Recall Newsom” rally at the State Capitol over the weekend.

Talking with Jeffery Perrine, Riley said, “I may or may not have rubbed my butt on Nasty Pelosi’s desk.”

Perrine was expelled from the Sacramento County Republican Central Committee last month for his involvement with the Proud Boys. In the video, Perrine confirmed he is a member of the Proud Boys organization.

Johnny Morgan is the State President of the CRA that requested Riley’s resignation from the CRA after he was charged with a felony and other crimes related to his role in the capitol meelee.

Because Jorge Riley was at a Recall Newsom event, the media is smearing the recall with this guy’s behavior. The ongoing trainwreck and disaster has been brough upon us by a string of enablers including those in the above photo.

It is not just the OCGOP. ouch. Get arrested, jailed and charged with several crimes? Here is a nice Eagle and parting gift! #FACEPALM

It is amazing really to see the parallels between Diane Harkey and John Moorlach.

In the aftermath of the election there is no ownership or personal responsibility. I received an email from the OCGOP via several people that shows Fred Whitaker is from the same camp. I did not even have a chance to highlight the effective, yet vain effort that the OCGOP put on (with $30K of Fred’s own money) to save Moorlach. It is pretty much impossible to complement anything Fred Whitaker and the OCGOP did as the ego is pre-eminent.

Whitaker doubled down (as did Moorlach) effectively calling the opponents of Moorlach’s liars.

Whitaker and Moorlach also projected blame for Moorlach’s defeat on others. In Fred’s mind, everyone should have listened to him and not run. There are two flaws in Whitaker’s logic, beyond the decision to move heaven and earth for Moorlach, the assumption that all of Vo and Muldoon’s voters would have chosen Moorlach, and the second flaw is covering up the underperformance of Republican voters in that district.

Honest brokers would realize that Moorlach likely loses a head-to-head matchup as voters disgusted with Moorlach would have either taken the democrat or left the universe. Both dynamics would erase the slim margin of total Republican votes. Take a look at the underperformance of Republican voters in this election to understand fully what is happening.

Consistently from the beginning, the issue with John Moorlach was the moral failure related to his Chief of Staff in the Senate covering up a rape by Bill Brough (who owed him $45k at the time) and Moorlach being so disconnected from his staff that he knew nothing. Yet the hysterical defense of comparing Moorlach to Brett Kavanaugh ruled the day.

Moorlach and Whitaker got caught smearing the rape victim – and Whitaker did it again in his summary email. Talk about tone-deaf and wondering why Women abandon the GOP so quickly?

Moorlach’s career in politics is also fraught with blatant hypocrisy that would have been enough to wreck him long before the rape of a staffer he later smeared came to light.

Diane Harkey shares all of these attributes (with different circumstances of course), based on my research. This time, however, in order to help save the OCGOP and others from themselves I am way out ahead of this. Perhaps Harkey can take responsibility unlike Moorlach and save herself the same fate.

Diane Harkey and John Moorlach are retreads

Diane Harkey and John Moorlach are beset with scandals made worse by their personal conduct

Diane Harkey and John Moorlach are career politicians

Diane Harkey and John Moorlach have consistently played the victim when challenged with their moral failures

Diane Harkey and John Moorlach are both darlings of the OCGOP establishment who do all the establishment things to promote them.

As we continue rolling out our research on Diane Harkey – the push-back is going to be predictible. The most incorrigible will make it about me. Most will just try to hide and avoid conflict. The few smart ones will read and digest the info.

I don’t care who the Chairman of the OCGOP is. What I do care about is teeing up another flawed fossil of OCGOP politics with more baggage than a 747 and watching her lose her second major race in 4 yearss.

Trish Todd, who was raped by Bill Brough while working for John Moorlach is the real victim here.

She was victimized by Lisa Bartlett whose disclosure of her incident with Bill Brough touched off a series of events that led to Trish coming out in public. Despite the common nexus, Bartlett endorsed Moorlach – making people ask the question if her disclosure was motivated by the spectre of having a race with Bill Brough for her next office (State Senate).

Trish was victimized by Tim Clark (Moorlach’s Chief of Staff and long time campaign consultant) who covered up the rape.

Trish was victimized by the OCGOP who stubbornly continue to attack her because of their own imbalanced egos.

Trish Todd was also victimized by John Moorlach.

The OCGOP leadership and the cocktail party circuit don’t care and now they are short a supervisor… soon to be two as they learned nothing about foisting a flawed candidate on the electorate.

We warned you about John Moorlach months, even years ago. Now we are warning you about Diane Harkey – read with an open mind or else the democrats will take over the OC Board of Supervisors.

There is a final point to make here. The OCGOP’s influence is dead. They no longer can determine the outcome of a race anymore. Since Diane Harkey blamed Darrell Issa for all of her maladies in 2018, the OCGOP can expect to be treated the same if Harkey loses in 2022. Mrs. Harkey ought to take a good close look at just how much the OCGOP can bring to the table and temper her expectations instead of allowing herself to get in to the same trap she did when she projected the impossible on to Darrell Issa.

I am glad John Moorlach is gone. I am not glad Katrina Foley won. However, my fear, that is grounded in reality is that history is set to repeat itself in 2022. You will see more detail soon.
