How many of you have struggled to find a delegate appointment? How many of you are aware that Jessica Patterson is a career staffer who has worked to support Prop 14, gut the CAGOP Platform and for a host of liberals such as McCain, Romney, Meg Whitman and the like?

She highlights her service as Executive Director of the California Trailblazers. Since its’ 2011 inception, the California Trailblazers has been present and participated in the net loss of 13 GOP Seats in the State Legislature. 28-19 in the Assembly, 15-11 in the State Senate. How low can we go? Since its’ inception in 2011, the California Trailblazers has paid $2.3 Million in Salaries against a paltry $142,000 in candidate contributions. Jessica Patterson’s haul has been over $1.2 Million.

A review of a recent update to the CAGOP Delegate list shows some 50% of the appointed delegates thus far are staffers and/or people that earn some or all of their income from politics. (BTW – I am a part time paid political consultant and I have a financial interest in the outcome of the CAGOP officer elections in case you missed an earlier disclosure of that fact).

I’ve been a party to several long time CAGOP Delegates being shunned for appointments. It is clear that those seeking to install Jessica Patterson as CAGOP Chairman are riding herd on appointers seeking only those with fealty to the status quo.

In addition, remember, some of the crew supporting Jessica Patterson attempted to take out incumbent Republican assemblymembers Tim Donnelly and Alan Mansoor. So their refusal to be team players and desire for total control to the exclusion of many is not a new phenomena. My personal experience with Luis Buhler and Jeff Randle has been a 30+ year history of hunting Conservatives with more vigor and vitriol than they ever did their fellow democrats. (Randle was Pete Wilson’s hatchet man in the 1990’s seeking retribution against Conservatives that were opposing tax increases)

As I type this blog, people are cutting deals, being pressured and deck chairs are being lined up to pre-ordain the outcome of the CAGOP’s officer elections. Should these tactics yield the desired result – it will create several consequences:

  1. An even smaller group of consultants, most of whom have performed poorly in terms of winning elections will get pretty much all of the paid work. Meridian Pacific, and Jeff Randle (Randle Communications), named previously as part of the oligarchy trying to elect Jessica stand to gain financially from this outcome. They have made hundreds of thousands of dollars trading on the failures of the CAGOP in the last decade. (More on that soon)
  2. Those of us that have supported the nominee of the GOP time and time again – thus honoring the results of the primary will be effectively discarded by the actions of the whole crew seeking to take over the CAGOP. No one in CAGOP leadership or in office will be able to claim any moral imperative to compel anyone to honor the results of any GOP Primary.
  3. It will solidify the contempt for and complete the elimination of any influence the grassroots have in the CAGOP at the behest of the kingmakers.
  4. Mrs. Patterson will have an impossible time trying to assert herself as an independent leader of the GOP in California. Rather, she may well be disregarded as a vassal of Kevin McCarthy. (quite unfair to her by the way)

There is precedent for my skepticism – in 2010, when Jeff Randle was running Meg Whitman’s $144MM train wreck after the primary, a blacklist was created. Everyone who worked for Steve Poizner was blacklisted from doing any paid work for Whitman or anyone else they had sway over in 2010. There is nothing in the behavior of these folks that has changed in the last decade, therefore it is not unreasonable to think there will be the same retaliation. Remember, Jeff Randle is the CEO for the California Trailblazers.

I am concerned on a variety of levels. How does Jessica Patterson unify the CAGOP given the tactics? Will people (other than me) be retaliated against? (I’ve made peace with the fact that I will be retaliated against) Will a blacklist be maintained? Will Meridian Pacific and Randle Communications be the only firms getting CAGOP Contracts and/or targeted races despite the 13 seat loss in the last decade? Will volunteer groups continue to be shunned and shut out of decision making? What will happen with Voter Registration given that many on the inside gave up on it? Who has a plan for Ballot Harvesting?

Let me repeat – I do not know Jessica Patterson. I have friends that think highly of her. I know her by her reputation – a career staffer for the left of the GOP. I am extremely skeptical of her qualifications and her political bias / connections. I think we all should be. I think what she has done is wrong, and what people are doing on her behalf is wrong, all of which should disqualify her from being CAGOP Chair.

To Be Continued

P.S. They did not stop with just attempting to control delegate appointments. In a future post, you will learn about massive expenditures of money against Conservative Activists and several counties getting deprived of representation to the CAGOP. Jessica Patterson was in the middle of all of it.

One Response to “CAGOP Update: Separating the Activist Base from Party Leadership? A Recipe for Disaster”

  1. Prior to moving to Texas, I was a CRP delegate for twelve consecutive years (and an executive committee member for four of those years). I’m also a past county party chairman and treasurer for Contra Costa. However, I’m willing to bet that had I still been in California I’d have had a very difficult time finding an appointment. Even for the 2017-2018 term I was told by some Bay Area appointees that they had been asked not to appoint me, and I ended up finding an appointment from outside the Bay Area.
