The Placer County Supervisors has a big vote coming up this week. Squaw Valley is proposing to redevelop its parking lots with additional lodging and hospitality offerings. The ski industry is changing all over the country. Squaw wants to make improvements to remain competitive with Colorado, Utah and other resorts around the country who have been upgrading and enhancing their offerings to skiers.
For Placer County, this means more jobs and more economic development for the region.
The project really doesn’t expand beyond the current asphalt parking lot. But, being in Tahoe, there are always going to be opponents to any proposed redevelopment. The vocal opposition seems to be a mixture of NIMBY types and one particularly aggressive environmental group, Sierra Watch.  This organization has waged a campaign, much of which is built on distortions, in a way that’s not often seen – even in Tahoe. You’d swear that Squaw had put measure M on the ballot all by themselves.
It’s interesting to note however that, Sierra Watch isn’t always so aggressive in its opposition to development in the region. The Squaw Project appears to receive far more intense and vehement opposition than anything else Sierra Watch has undertaken in recent years.
We think we’ve figured out why. When you take a look at Sierra Watch’s publicly available financial filings shows something they haven’t been telling the public, or even their supporters about. We will dive in to those filings in a future post.
Here at RightonDaily.com, we’ve learned that over the past few years, they’ve had massive infusions of cash on their balance sheet. In fact, Sierra Watch’s assets nearly quadrupled over 12 months from July 2014 to June 2015. An organization that was worth about $300k now boasts over $1.3 Milion dollars in assets. We are sure it wasn’t Cattle Futures either.
Where did all the cash come from?  There’s been speculation that it may come from developers in the region since Sierra Watch seems to be mildly opposed and simply quiet on some projects and wildly and hair on fire opposed to Squaw.
What’s even more interesting is Sierra Watch seemingly hasn’t disclosed any of this on their website or in other public communications.
So, just what is Sierra Watch after when it comes to Squaw?
Is this just another attempt to get a massive cash infusion into its coffers? Is their vocal opposition based on the fact that they see another massive cash payout that can come from a big employer like Squaw?
Your interpid blogger wants to know – what is the whole story behind all this cash suddenly swishing around Sierra Watch’s coffers?
There are a lot of questions here. A lot. It looks like the planning commissioners and supervisors need to know what is driving this groups’ opposition as they contemplate the issues over the next few weeks.
Things that make you go HMMM. If you want to help Squaw Valley expand in to the 21st Century despite Sierra Watch – see below:

In Placer Sup D5, Josh Alpine, a well-respected PCWA director held off a challenge from extreme left-wing enviro Otis Wollan. Wollan was unseated 8 years ago by Ben Mavy. Mavy recruited and supported Alpine 4 years ago before he moved to Wyoming.

In Auburn, long time and well-known businesswoman Cheryl Maki won a seat on the Auburn City Council. Keith Nesbitt was defeated. Maki is a fairly Conservative Republican who will help tilt that council to the business friendly right.

I’ve known Maki for years and while we’ve had our differences, I did support her over Josh Alpine for PCWA 4 years ago. I am glad to see her get elected, she will do well.

Mike Holmes lost his second election in a row in Auburn, losing a City Treasurer Race.

Short Sale LincolnWhile I was not paying attention much to races outside of Rocklin and Roseville, I have to say that I am thrilled to see that the residents of Lincoln have rejected Spencer Short.

While Short is arrogantly posting on his facebook that he is going to run for something else in the future – it appears that the 3-term councilmember had burnt a sufficient number of bridges with his duplicity. It was put to me that the usual sources of money that Lincoln Council Candidates go to for financing were quite tepid for Mr. Short (save for one).

Should Mr. Short run for another office in the future, he can make bank that the RightOnDaily.com blog will be there for him.

For right now, we are thrilled that the residents of Lincoln performed cancer surgery and held a short sale.

Many of you that read this blog regularly know I have no use for Beth Gaines or Ted Gaines. They represent the worst politics has to offer:

  1. They play Christian when it suits them
  2. They discard political allies at a whim and are loyal to no one
  3. They are always looking at the next office beyond the one they are in

Beth Gaines shopped for three offices to run for, and settled on running for El Dorado County Supervisor after determining that she could not beat Kirk Uhler in Placer and the wise now-retired Roberta MacGlashan waited until Gaines moved to a rented house in Serrano to retire. N/E Sacramento County was spared Beth Gaines and will soon be represented by Sue Frost.

El Dorado County had to rid itself of the Gaines cancer. Beth Gaines used a bunch of money she raised in to her Assembly account to build a seemingly insurmountable lead for herself. She believed she had the name ID and good will in El Dorado County to use them for her next government paycheck.

Then along came John Hidahl, a 40 year resident of the area. Hidahl ran a modest, but straightforward campaign. Hidahl was known to people and rooted in the area and is notably able to complete full sentences extemporaneously.

One of the best moments of the evening was getting a text message from a friend showing Gaines trailing Hidahl in the runoff by a massive 17 points. That margin held throughout the night.

A man I believe to be a sexual predator, who was reportedly (as told to me by several in the Capitol) fired by the State Senate Rules committee for multiple documented and real sexual harassment complaints, Steve Davey was her campaign manager. Davey needed a paycheck once he was forced out of Sacramento.

This is humiliating for Sssssteve Davey as well as his departure from Ted Gaines office was spun as a promotion in to him running his own consulting business. I hope someday to have a candidate running against one of his, and anyone that knows how to treat women and whose IQ is above plant life should relish the chance to square off against Davey in a campaign.

Beth Gaines was supposed to occupy an El Dorado County Supervisor seat for 2.5 years and then Run for State Senate in a Special Election in 2019. The idea was that her name ID could carry her in to office like it did in a special election in 2011.

Then the feckless, incompetent team of Beth Gaines and Steve Davey got their asses kicked.

Ted Gaines, just re-elected to his final term in the State Senate is already lining up his run for Board of Equalization in 2018. He has moved money and raised money and is buying slate mail cards in preparation for that run. I am told that Gaines, whose district runs all the way to the Oregon Border is rarely ever seen North of Auburn.

The defeat of Beth Gaines puts a major crimp in the best laid plans of team Gaines. After the establishment (who lost badly on the GOP side in 2016 with the election of Donald Trump) funded Gaines re-election in 2012 despite their knowledge of her incompetence and lack of character, it has been a long wait for justice for the betrayals of many in South Placer.

We will still have to beat her one more time in 2019 should Ted Gaines win his BOE race in 2018. That will be a very different election as donors have little to fear from a BOE member versus a sitting State Senator leveraging that position to force donors in to supporting an unqualified spouse. We will have a chance to get rid of the Gaines scourge in California if we stop Ted Gaines for BOE in 2018, as Ted will be forced out of his 15 year infestation of state-level office by term limits in 2020.

For now, I will enjoy some justice for those that Ssssteve Davey and the Gaines have hurt – knowing full well that their sense of entitlement to public office will never stop.

elemtsI have been a long-time critic of Doug Elmets. Like most aging men who are trying to hang on to relevance, ego takes over and the flame-out begins.

Doug Elmets will tell you ad-naseum, he is a Republican and that he worked for Ronald Reagan. Reagan is rolling in his grave at what Elmets has become.

Those of us that knew him well, knew that a National explosion of his ghastly Ego was coming.

Some of the indicators that Elmets was a loser were there. Once Elmets sold out for his thirty pieces of Clinton Foundation Silver, GOP.COM quickly popped this “Republican” as a whore democrat donor.

Doug Elmets has a reputation of being a shameless self-promoter, and like many of the Conservatives I hammer for egomenical narcissism, this alleged “Moderate Republican” was pushing his past affiliation with Ronald Reagan for a political paycheck. Pictured is his post of his press-pass at the democrat national convention. Linked here is the fruits of him whoring himself for press attention from the Sacramento Bee.

There is a problem for Doug Elmets. He screwed over Roseville First 2016 as they sent one tiny piece of mail in support of Richard Roccucci, that was it. Roccucci lost badly as Elmets was spending time with his fellow democrats at the NY Times doing interviews repeating the same lies and attacks against Donald Trump. Roccucci get left in the lerch as Elmets had bigger fish to fry.

306-232There is a second problem for Doug Elmets. He appeared in attack ads done by Hillary Clinton against President-Elect Donald Trump.

Included here for your reference is a picture of the electoral map. Despite the best efforts of Mr. Elmets,  Hillary Clinton got hammered in the electoral college.

Doug Elmets is a paid consultant for the Auburn Rancheria, making an alleged $15,000 a month. He is on the A-List of a bunch of people that have to call him to deal with the Auburn Rancheria. It must suck to be Doug Elmets now, as he has to deal with a bunch of people that think he is a fool.

I am sure Roseville First 2016 is going to dump Doug Elmets as fast as Hillary Clinton got dumped by America.

P.S. Linked here is a story I wrote about Elmets selling Roseville First 2016 down the river.

And the biggest loser was Rocklin Godfather Peter Hill.

captureThis is a post I have been wanting to write for a long time. While I loved the late Kathy Lund, and was proud to help Diana Ruslin (a hill Protege’) get on to the council, Peter Hill is a man who I have little respect for at all.

Peter Hill was also Ken Broadway’s Treasurer, and I had been clear with Ken both in person and on this blog about my feelings regarding his run for two seats on the Rocklin Council simultaneously. I still consider Ken a friend, he is a good man – but his and Hill’s blunder backfired spectacularly.

One of the Club, David Butler finished 4th. The conventional wisdom is that they will just appoint Mr. Butler back in to that vacancy further deepening the resentment towards the “Good Old Boys Network”. BTW – I would support returning Mr. Butler to the council as I am sure the loss will have a long-term positive effect on him.

Joe Patterson is a good man, while he is not as Conservative as I am, and if you read this blog, you will notice that I write those words a lot. (In my travels to Nevada to work campaigns, I have learned that California’s right-winger is a squish in other states -as in real America).  Joe Patterson is going to be a fresh, new face for Rocklin.

capture1Contrast this to someone that I believe is mentally unstable, Connie McLennan who was basically Cyber-Stalking Joe during the campaign. (She also left comments on this blog)

It is apparent that McLennan was encouraged/recruited/supported by Peter Hill. As you can see, her classless attack on Joe Patterson has one like. Peter Hill.

Apparently, the old man thinks that politicizing a death after a fight at a cardroom is a smart idea. Perhaps Hill was supportive of the canard by the Clinton Campaign that people getting beaten at Trump rallies was Trump’s fault? Or maybe Peter Hill was paying this McLennan loser in the same manner as his fellow democrat Hillary Clinton was proven to be paying the violent protesters at Trump events.

Peter Hill’s legacy to Rocklin is a string of left-wing city ordinances that dictate far more to people about how to live their lives than surrounding communities. After moving to Rocklin, I saw an article about how Rocklin was one of the “Greenest Cities” in America. No wonder why it is expensive and struggles to bring in businesses.

The incoming council would do well to start excising the moderate-democrat leadership of Peter Hill. Hill’s legacy of micro management and paper thin ego-based decisions is the other reason than my PG&E bill for why I was glad to exit Rocklin. (Sorry Rocklin Friends, I am being real here)

The Current Council would also do well to permanently end the practice of artificial peace that exists. City Staff have way too much influence over the process. The mental hopsital issue is a classic example.

Hill and the others that got so self-righteously angry at Joe Patterson the usurper for upsetting the order, versus understanding that the bureaucracy was the cause of the tumolt lost badly last night.

Joe Patterson won, and Ken Broadway won a second time. Dave Butler Lost.

Peter Hill came out publicly for more people than just us insiders to see who he is. Still vivid in my memory is the letter that Peter Hill sent to the Placer GOP berating us for opposing some extremely fiscally irresponsible, larded municipal tax measures that may well have been written by zoo animals. He then proceeded to render his psychoanalysis of our character, then informed us he was leaving  the GOP.

It was his same brilliance that hatched this “control two seats plan” of Mr. Broadway. Comments relayed to me from people in Rocklin and the above interaction of facebook prove that once again Hill made it all about himself.

Peter Hill was rejected twice by the voters of Rocklin last night, after his classless moves during the campaign. There is a changing of the guard in Rocklin where young conservatives are usurping the old-school democrats and this is a good thing.
