Karen England was endorsed by Phyllis Schlafly, Richard Giguere, John Eastman, Chuck DeVore, Assemblyman Mike Morrell and Assemblymember Tim Donnelly – amongst others in her run for CRA President.

You’d think the above list would be an indicator of a Conservative’s Conservative.

There’s a problem – one of compromise. As Revealed earlier – David Stafford Reade has been exposed as a paid lackey of Charles Munger who lied to people and ran a drill to twist Conservative proxies in to the hands of liberals in order to destroy the California Republican Party Platform.

Karen England thinks I’m lying – she wrote the following words in an email tirade to me: “another FACT:  the proxies did not matter in  the most recent CRP meeting so it doesn’t matter who had them, it was impossible for them to be used on the platform committee or on the floor for the purpose of platform.

Karen England has a problem – she is the executive director of the Capitol Resource Institute. David Stafford Reade sits on their board of directors.

Doug LaMalfa is one of their largest donors.

David Reade’s actions are well documented – while serving on the board of a “family values” organization – he took substantial pay to lie, cheat and steal a result to undermine those very values.

Doug LaMalfa’s staff were caught red-handed in the middle of it.

Karen Emailed me unsolicited to tell me I was lying because the proxy drill did not matter.

Hmmm – If Karen cared about the conservative movement – why isn’t she concerned about where LaMalfa’s staff’s proxies went?

Why isn’t she concerned about the LaMalfa staff participation in getting the Proxies of Conservatives in the hands of Bay Area Liberals?

Why isn’t she asking the critical questions? “Why did Munger pay for this proxy drill if it didn’t matter?”

Here is her original email:

Aaron,

Just read your blog about the CRP convention.  The proxies at this convention did not and could not have ANYTHING to do with the platform  The only meeting regrading platform was AFTER the convention and only committee members could vote – NO PROXIES.  The platform will be voted on in whole, at the next convention.  Proxies COULDN’T vote on anything regarding the platform this last go around.  Again, you can’t even get the most basic information correct – it was IMPOSSIBLE for the platform to be voted on the floor last weekend.
Karen can’t ask the legitimate questions because of her conflicts of interest.
The above does indeed underscore the brilliance of Tom Del Becarro and others who moved the Platform Committee Meeting to 1pm on Sunday after the main Convention Session was over. The Majority that David Stafford Reade and Team Munger had coerced at the California Republican Party Convention was rendered useless.
This is the fact that Karen England can’t acknowledge – because doing so would remove her only justification for defending David Reade and Doug LaMalfa’s actions.
Meanwhile, back in Placer County – Doug LaMalfa, Karen England, Mark Spannagel and their Non-Conservative allies continue their assault on the Placer-CRA led Placer GOP Central Committee.
Pattern Recognition Folks, Pattern Recognition…
This will be continued – next up: “Did the Moderates try to Take Over CRA?”

(Blogger’s Note: The California Republican Party record of Proxies and Credentials is public record and available to anyone that asks Ann Whitley for it – please click the hyperlink or contact Ann Whitley at the CRP directly for verification of the info posted here)

How Much did Charles Munger offer? I was told by two political insiders that it was $100,000. Neither would go on the record – but the story is that every member of the Assembly and State Senate were offered $100,000 for voter registration inside their district by Charles Munger in exchange for supporting “his platform”. This “offer” was also extended to an unidentified Central Committee as well. (My source would not specify)

The above, if true, suggests why so few electeds were present at the Convention, in addition – I have also been told by many more that Munger’s resources (aka money) have a lot of people scared.

LaMalfa? Almost all of his appointees were tied up in the drill.

Doug LaMalfa’s district director – Lisa Buescher’s Proxy was in the hands of Bay-Area Liberal Republican activist Luis Buhler for this convention. Lisa is an alleged Conservative, Buhler is anything but a Conservative.

Doug LaMalfa’s Chief of Staff – Mark Spannagel had his wife’s Proxy (Emily Jarvinen) in the hands of John D. Longwell of Santa Cruz County – a huge booster of Abel Maldonado and a donor to liberal Republican causes.

Mark Spannagel’s Mother’s Proxy? (Judy Jarvinen) Kevin Krick – the Marin County GOP Chairman, not exactly Jeff Atteberry from Placer. (who, incidentally didn’t have any proxies) Mark Spannagel lives in Placer County – yet two proxies he controls ended up in Marin and Santa Cruz County?

It didn’t stop there.

Phyllis Wing – a Tea Party Patriot and a Conservative Christian from Lincoln told my source that she “Gave my Proxy to Doug LaMalfa”. It is unclear who called Phyllis – but her proxy ended up in the hands of Suzanne Caro from the Alameda Central Committee – not someone from Placer nor someone who believes as Wing does.

Bill and Bonnie Williams? Both are members of the Placer CRA and have been for years. Bonnie is also the president of the Folsom Area RWF. Bonnie told me that she was called by Lisa Buescher and asked for their proxies. Bonnie indicated that she “gave her proxies to Doug LaMalfa” because “she could trust him” to do the right thing. Bill Williams Proxy was given to Peter Ohtaki, Jr from San Mateo County and Bonnie’s was given to Michael Pelzel from Santa Clara County.

Kelly and Casey Lawler gave their proxies to David Reade. (She told me as such) Their proxies ended up in the hands of Morgan Kelly, the CRP Vice-Chairman Bay Area who voted against the conservative platform. So, Glenn County was represented by San Francisco County, Sacramento County by Santa Clara and San Mateo, etc etc etc.

Looks like David Stafford Reade did a CRA redux?

LaMalfa Staff Christine Rydell – Lucy Calder San Mateo GOP Chair.
LaMalfa Staff Kevin Eastman – Harmeet Dhillon, San Francisco GOP Chairman and a leader in the Moderate Movement inside the GOP
LaMalfa Staff Erin Ryan – Tyler Savage, Bay Area GOP Club Officer.

Erin Ryan is supposed to be a leader in the Shasta Tea Party who parlayed that in to a Job in Doug LaMalfa’s office.

Here are the issues:

1. Did Doug LaMalfa know about this? If not, now that he knows, what is he going to do about it now?

2. Mark Spannagel, Lisa Buescher and David Reade all deceived people and in the case of Spannagel/Buescher – they are Conservative Frauds as demonstrated by their actions. (everyone already knew Reade is for sale)

3. At best, this is a major embarrassment for Doug LaMalfa – at worst, this is conclusive proof that LaMalfa is also caught in a fraud trap as it pertains to claiming the canard of a Conservative.

Given the behavior of the above and the fact that they are also driving the bus against the Placer-CRA led Placer GOP Central Committee, I am now more convinced than ever that the attack against Placer is an ideological one.

Don’t forget – David Reade was paid to orchestrate all of the above (according to several political insiders I have spoken to).

Did Doug LaMalfa and Staff work to Destroy Republican Platform? (Part 1)

What!? How could the 100% CRA Scorecard Doug LaMalfa be guilty of such a thing!?

Please read the next series of posts with an open mind and decide for yourself – who is Doug LaMalfa loyal to – the Conservative Movement or those looking to throw conservatives out of the GOP?

Have a look at the recent California Republican Party platform fight for starters.

First off – the Sacramento Bee highlighted Liberal Billionaire Charles Munger and his all-out effort to gut the California Republican Party platform. They praised Munger’s knowledge of the By-Laws and the rules of the California Republican Party. Munger managed to rig a majority on the drafting committee that came out with a platform that basically said nothing.

The problem is that the CRA maintained a solid majority on the entire platform committee where ‘Munger’s platform’ died. It was substituted for the “Pruner” platform by a 66-50 vote that was previously highlighted on this blog.

Here’s where team Doug LaMalfa comes in.

Let’s say that the full platform committee voted the Munger platform out to the floor. According to what I have seen from the delegates in attendance and the proxies assigned – the Moderates had a majority and could have blocked any attempt to override the decision of the Platform Committee.

That’s right – I indicated that the Moderates had a majority of VOTES, not delegates. How did they do that?

Enter David Stafford Reade. David Reade is an ethically-challenged political consultant. David Reade’s specialty is manipulating the outcomes of endorsements and elections within Republican organizations. David Reade was expelled from the CRA for maintaining fraudulent CRA units in the North State and was also undeniably the Quarterback of the effort that netted Mitt Romney a CRA endorsement in 2007.

Reade is also a smear merchant – as reported to me by staffers, in 1999 he created a fake newspaper to accuse Conservative former State Senator Rico Oller of spousal abuse after first floating rumors of an FBI investigation in to Rico Oller. (12 years later, still no visit from the FBI)

In Placer County, the Conservatives that control our local Central Committee have been treated tactics similar to David Reade’s, apparently aided and abetted by Doug LaMalfa and LaMalfa’s Chief of Staff Mark Spannagel. (also previously documented on this blog, and here’s another for good measure)

However, with a fight engaged for the heart and soul of the California Republican Party – it appears that Doug LaMalfa+staff betrayed us all again.

Insider sources tell me that David Reade was on Charles Munger’s payroll – running a proxy drill to collect the votes of California Republican Party members in order to assure his benefactor of a victory in a convention floor fight.

There is ample evidence to suggest that David Stafford Reade enlisted Mark Spannagel and Lisa Buescher – both senior staff of Doug LaMalfa in the effort.

In part two of this post – I will detail the Conservatives who were lied to and made to believe their proxies were going to Doug LaMalfa. The fact that two of LaMalfa’s senior staff and his former campaign manager were undeniably involved in this begs the questions… Did Doug LaMalfa know about this? Why didn’t he do anything? If Doug LaMalfa didn’t know what his staff was doing, what is he going to do now?

It appears that Doug LaMalfa has never attempted to check David Reade. I have seen LaMalfa’s staff follow whatever client David Reade is working for – (you know, on the side and not at taxpayer’s expense as Reade claimed to the Redding Record Searchlight) and the pattern has re-manifest time and again.

It gets better – Charles Munger is also purported, again from several insider sources to have offered large amounts of money (that dwarf Reade’s payoff) for support of his new destroyed California Republican Party platform. How much? and to whom? Coming in Part 2.

Here is the Actual Roll Call from the California Republican Party Platform Committee

There are 207 members of the committee – 87 did not show.

Please also note that Charles Munger is reputed to have spent $75K to as much as $150K on this effort – to lost by 16 votes. Four years ago, the margin was only 5 votes.

Via their alternates on the Placer County Republican Central Committee – the above three abstained on a resolution in support of the Current Republican Party Platform vs the new gutted platform put forth by liberal Billionaire Charles Munger…

Those of you the read this blog know that the Placer County Republican Central Committee is a mess.

The mess was created by a self-styled “Conservative” activist with a personal axe to grind who used her media savvy to spread her vitriol. This same activist has deep ties to Gaines/Gaines/LaMalfa and has aligned herself with the small moderate minority on the Central Committee.

Therein lies the rub – at the time of my writing this post, I do not have a copy of the roll call on the resolution the Placer GOP adopted in support of the Conservative California Republican Party platform – but I do have several eye-witness accounts of the behavior of the alternates of the three electeds.

Doug LaMalfa appointed a known moderate activist Murriel Oles – who I endorsed for a leadership position in the California Federation of Republican Women. Murriel is a great activist for the GOP – but is not a CRA type Conservative. Her appointment by LaMalfa is consistent for two reasons:

1. LaMalfa’s allies in the North State are Moderates
2. LaMalfa is 100% opposed to the current conservative leadership of the Placer GOP Central Committee.

I have been able to ascertain through anecdotal evidence that Karen England was responsible for getting Ted Gaines to appoint a known moderate, Carole Valliancourt as his alternate.

Again – this is an extension of Karen England’s alliance with the Moderates in her personal war against the CRA and the CRA – backed leadership of the Placer GOP Cent Com.

Beth Gaines? She is still trying to settle in to office and has given her alternate direction to abstain on everything unless directed to do otherwise.

For as much as I’d like to claim that this is Doug LaMalfa showing his true moderate convictions – this vote is not an indication of that. I believe that LaMalfa at his core is a conservative – but he has thrown in with the liberals because the Conservatives support other candidates and LaMalfa was/is a product of the Bernie Ricther camp.

LaMalfa is also motivated by revenge as much as Karen England is.

Ted Gaines and Beth Gaines are still embroiled in the middle of the ongoing war in the Placer GOP Central Committee.

The Conclusion?

Ted Gaines and Doug LaMalfa appointed Moderates and gave them no direction as to the platform issue – there was no other logical thing for those alternates to do other than abstain.

This is a sad, sad by-product of the war they have decided to get involved in at the Placer County GOP Central Committee level – they have allowed themselves to get painted in to a corner.

Beth Gaines will abstain until the cows come home.

And so continues the leadership vacuum in the Republican Party at the state elected level.

Meantime – the Placer GOP Central Committee will accomplish its’ mission with or without those that seek to dismantle it to serve their own ends.
